The Sleep/Wake Research Centre offers two postgraduate courses in sleep and circadian science. These courses are designed for students who wish to develop advanced knowledge in these areas and who have previously completed a university qualification. They are suitable for those wanting to extend their current knowledge of sleep and circadian science, but also cater for those with no to little knowledge in these areas.
To discuss enrolment in postgraduate courses, please contact Dr Karyn O'Keeffe, Course Coordinator, by email or telephone +64 4 979 3260.
252.701: Sleep and circadian science for health practitioners (30 credits)
This distance-taught, single-semester course provides an examination of sleep and circadian science in relation to health and healthcare. In particular, it considers sleep and circadian physiology in the context of healthy sleep and sleep disorders, and the role of sleep and circadian health in overall health and waking function. Additionally, there is exploration of the mechanisms that underlie sleep and circadian disruption associated with shift work, and their health and safety consequences.
The course can be completed as part of the Master of Nursing and Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing programmes at Massey University and may also be taken as a standalone course.

252.702: Sleep, fatigue risk management and occupational safety and health (30 credits)
This distance-taught, single-semester course considers the application of sleep and circadian science in fatigue risk management, shift work, and occupational health and safety. It provides an overview of the organisational processes required to implement a fatigue risk management system, as well as regulatory requirements for management of fatigue and shift work in occupational health and safety.
The course can be completed as part of the Master of Health Science (Occupational Health and Safety) or Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science (Occupational Health and Safety) at Massey University and may also be taken as a standalone course.
